Branding Online Store June 3, 2019

ECOMMERCE – GREEK BOOKSHOP

The Greek Bookshop is the continuation of an initially small enterprise started by Greek migrants based in Adelaide that aimed to distribute Greek books throughout Australia, which began in October 1982. In 1988 the enterprise relocated to Melbourne where a Greek bookshop was established in Brunswick. This was one of the first Greek bookshops in Australia and possibly the only one outside Greece which continues to engage  solely with the distribution and promotion of Greek books. In recent times the Greek Bookshop has moved away from your traditional method of selling books, via physical stores, to primarily trading through an online e-commerce store.

01 // Project overview

Modern and
cutting-edge approach
for creating a seamless shopping experience.

The primary goal of the e-shop redesign was to create a more user-friendly and secure online experience. The Greek bookshop needed to update its identity and brand guidelines to align itself with the transition to an online market/customer base whilst increasing sales in a niche market.

02 // Challenges

Transmitting the traditional in-store experience to the online world.

The key challenge was that the Greek Bookshop wanted to bring the traditional in-store experience of purchasing books to the on-line world while maintaining an easy and user-friendly inventory management platform for the owners. The Greek Bookshop only sells books written in the Greek language, thus it was equally challenging to develop a strategy to increase sales in such a niche market.

03// Approach

The brand new e-shop and inventory system, made from scratch.

Before developing a rebranding strategy, the Greek Bookshop engaged with the team at DigitalX who could help them better understand and scope out the task in front of them. The DigitalX team completed interviews and questionnaires to understand the company’s objectives and desired outcomes. Digital X offered a clear action plan to rebuild the front and back-end of the online store from php to a Shopify platform. All the data from the old e-shop was transferred to the platform seamlessly while the store benefited considerably from the increased speed, more flexibility, improved scalability, and seamless shopping experience for the customers. To ensure that non-Greek speaking customers, such as grandchildren wanting to gift a Greek book to their grandparents, Digital X used Grenglish, “Greek words written using english characters”, as part of the books’ title and description.
